Media Review #4 - CareerOne

Every month, Talent Propeller will be reviewing various types of media to share an honest and unbiased account of the best media options for recruiting candidates. This is media review #4: CareerOne

MEDIA:

CareerOne.com.au

ABOUT THE MEDIA:

CareerOne is News Limited's national careers brand, appearing in over 130 metropolitan, regional and local papers and online.  It has an audience of almost 1.3 million aspiring Australians searching for jobs every month.  It offers a variety of flexible advertising opportunities, including display, location based advertising and sponsorship of e-newsletters and job alerts.

ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN – WHAT ADS WE RAN:

For this review, we ran the following campaigns:

  • Writer / Marketing Assistant
  • Senior Graphic Designer – Part-time
  • Recruitment Business Partner
  • Digital Marketing Coordinator

Our Initial Findings:

  • You can make unlimited changes to the ad during the 30 days it is live
  • Application numbers were close to nonexistent throughout the entirety of the campaign

HOW APPLICATIONS ARE RECEIVED:

Candidates can be directed to apply via an external link, or via an email address. CareerOne doesn’t make people set up an account to apply for a job.

QUANTITY OF CANDIDATES RECEIVED:

  • Writer / Marketing Assistant                           0.63% of applicants came from CareerOne
  • Senior Graphic Designer – Part-time             0% of applicants came from CareerOne
  • Recruitment Business Partner                       0% of applicants came from CareerOne
  • Digital Marketing Coordinator                        0% of applicants came from CareerOne

QUALITY OF CANDIDATES RECEIVED:

For the one role that received an applicant for (out of 159 candidates from other sources) we did not progress them any further, as they did not have any suitable skills.

WHAT WE LIKED:

  • CareerOne allows you to direct candidates to apply via an external link

WHAT WE DIDN’T LIKE:

  • With ads starting at $170 + GST, its an extremely expensive channel which doesn’t deliver any results!

OUR VERDICT:

5 years ago CareerOne delivered good candidates, but these days they have lost so much market share that paying for an ad is simply throwing your money away.
